The Perseid meteor shower is one of the biggest astronomical events of the year, taking place each August. The showers are expected to take place Aug. 8-14, 2026 (peak viewing is estimated for Wednesday, Aug. 12).
Quadrantids (Jan 4): Up to 120 meteors per hour, typically best in the early morning.
Lyrids (April 22): Approximately 18 meteors per hour.
Eta Aquariids (May 6): Strong shower with up to 50 meteors per hour.
Delta Aquariids (July 30-31): Roughly 25 meteors per hour.
Perseids (Aug 12-13): Excellent conditions with a new moon, offering over 100 meteors per hour.
Draconids (Oct 9): Usually less than 10 meteors per hour.
Orionids (Oct 21): Around 20 swift, bright meteors per hour.
Leonids (Nov 17): Roughly 15 meteors per hour.
Geminids (Dec 14): Strong showing of up to 150 meteors per hour.
